Privacy policy
We collect as little as we can.
What we collect
- Newsletter: if you subscribe, your email address, the time of your consent and a one-way hash of your network address as proof of consent. We send a confirmation email first, and you are not subscribed until you confirm.
- Reading statistics: we count page views and outbound clicks on our own server so we can see which stories are read. Each visit is stored with the page, the date, your country (from the network), the type of device and browser, and where you came from. We do not store your IP address: a daily-changing code made from it and your browser lets us count visitors without following anyone from one day to the next. No cookies, no profile of you, no third-party trackers.
- Server logs: our hosting keeps standard technical logs (such as address and browser type) for security and fault-finding, for a short period.
We do not sell your data and we do not run third-party advertising or analytics scripts on our pages.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, and you can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email. Residents of the UK, the EU, California and other regions have further rights under local law; we honour them for everyone.
